Is this project sponsored by CIGWELD :D

Looks good mate. I think the seat position will work out OK. Driver seat will probably be pretty close to the engine though, but most centre mounts are like that anyway.

Ken remember that this rig is 20ft. It's not a 24ft XStar.

You are having a massive crack mate I really hope this works out for ya. What about the fuel tank is that going at the back as well? Are you going to put a top on it? if so you should make it really stealth looking like a stealth bomber looking deal with the tower made of plate steel welded to it as a continuous thing instead of a separate piece bolted to it.

Hows this for a crazy idea but since you're pushing the envelope why not think about it. Put the drivers seat right up the front in the centre with an aft facing bench seat behind it in front of the motor then another aft facing bench behind the motor.

Because of the displacement in the aft section, would you have more interior space from adding a V drive and having rear mount? Extra cost of course. In saying that, I think mid mount interior space wouldn’t be an issue with this project.

Being a "tinny" the driver really "should" be at the back.

Going to all that trouble and not making it a V-drive is crazy IMO!

I beg to differ, I think with a bit of imagination you could make a cool centre mount.

It would then be like every other tinny driver struggling to see over the bow on powering up.

*cough* plenty of 'big boat' drivers who can't see over the bow, why be different to the cool kids!

Amazing build, loving every picture, and please keep 'em coming!

If this keeps going, I reckon this and Doctord's could be stickied for posterity!

Well,

I will be trying to make the seating like the pic below with a possible seat in the back of the engine cover. The pic is kinda to scale. I will have to see what the floor level looks like & where I put the dash/windscreen as to what happens with the helm seat. But worst case scenario people will have to go around the left to get up front if the helm seat blocks the way. I really cant see any dramas with the helm seat as I have mocked up a chair & sat there, it doesn't seem that bad if I don't put a fat seat in & make the engine cover a snug fit.

The fuel tank will be underneath the back seat spanning most of the way across. The tower will probably be alloy pipe slanted back or a plate standalone fwd slanting bar.

This boat is actually sponsored by Lizard Yachts www.lizardyachts.com.au
This is really a tender to what they usually make.

I was really looking for a V-Drive engine but couldn't find one cheap enough, I am looking at having this thing in the water & making wake for under $15K, I just couldn't do that with a V-Drive. This donk only cost me 3K.

Does anyone have a cheap V-Drive? I could still mod it to fit!

I think if you are keeping the cost down as centre mount it will still be a head turner. Most mid mount boats I have been in you have to walk around passed observer’s seat to get to the drivers seat anyway. I like the set up... nice and simple..

Is the 15K for materials only? Surely that doesn't include labour.

That includes about $1500 labour for most of the welding. The rest of the fabrication is donated labour.
