Re: This winters projectGeez Jud..... still not sure about engine mounts.
I reckon you need the same footprint as the underside of the engine mount all the way down to the cross member. I would be fabricating a block/spacer with same footprint as the engine mount rather than relying on the aluminium tube you reference to restrict movement and maintain engine alignment at the gimbal bearing. I see the existing/old system moving around under load and when the boat bounces around. Maybe I'm wrong.......but just putting it out there....
Re: This winters project
I'm going to Can the all thread idea. I got a set of old Merc feet I'll clean up, The ball joint arrangement will take out much of the lateral stresses. I might need to extend them with a all thread coupling and screw another bolt or allthread in the other side then lock nut it. Re: This winters project
Why not weld another block onto your crossmember section to bolt the feet of your new mounts directly onto without lengthening the threado. ![]()

Re: This winters projectMuch much better Judd......
That method will also allow for some engine alignment capability. Nice work......
Re: This winters projectDidn't get much done today spent most of the day drilling out the cross member.
I'm not sure if this is right but the bush look like they've swollen and I'm not keen on bolting it down like that because the cast will probably crack. So I took 1-2mm off then. And I used a few a heap of mild steel bolts when I bolted it up I swapped over to grade 8. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectEngine mounts are in. They look heaps better.

Re: This winters projectCleaned all the jam out of the steering rack and gave it a good grease.
Once I had it all mounted up I thought the steering cable was going to be a ft short. The Chrysler drive steering arm was mounted a lil different. So I cut the corner up the front around the navi seat. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectModified the link piece to suit the Merc and made a brass bushing for it.
By the looks mercruiser don't make mechanical steering, even back in the 80s everything come out with powersteering. Might need to get a cheap steering wheel cover, the old one looks a bit shabby. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectMade the main wiring loom from the dash to the engine bay.
Also wired from the fuse box up the nose to the dash but the rain started to come in sideways so I wrapped the boat up before I could get any pics. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectProbably won't get much done for a week or 2 got Southern 80 this weekend.
Re: This winters projectNice work. Look forward to seeing this finished.
Sooooo, whens that carbon fiber dash wrap going in? ![]()
Re: This winters projectDash is all fitted off. Not the neatest job under there but it'll do.
Got the blower, bilge pump and fuel pump mounted and wired. Just gotta finish of the trim pump and the distributor. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectI'm not sure why but the threads on the old pump were different to the hoses that I had. I read somewhere else that all they are, are break lines. So I went to the local break and clutch joint and they had thread adapters next to the counter.

Re: This winters projectStarted the plumbing the other day.
Should look pretty good with a scour and a coat of clear, otherwise it'll turn green and look dull. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: This winters projectSorry about the draw it's the simplest one I could find on the net.
But how mercury had set up the old trim pump looked like the dash switch was carrying all the load when trimming down so I went and bought another 90A continuous duty relay and done away with all the unnecessary plugs and wires and retro fitted it so now the switch only operates the coils on the relays rather than carrying the full load of the motor. Re: This winters projectTemp switch finally turned up.
Bought a new battery box. Finished off all the wiring so it electrically ready to turn over minus a battery and a couple of fuses. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: This winters projectMounted up the fuel filter, expansion bottle and overflow bottle.
I had to run a 1/2 inch die over the expansion bottle to accept the barb fitting because it was some weird ass thread size. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
