Whilst I usually lift the engine cover before starting when the boat has been sitting for a bit, I am looking to fit a bildge blower. I have a 96 Skicraft Excel and I'll have to be clever in fitting it as room is pretty tight down there, but I have a few ideas. Anyway, my question, where is the best place for the pick up hose to end, down low in the bildge below the motor or up higher near the carby? I understood that fuel vapours are heavier than air so that to me says down low, but I have seen set ups where they are up higher.
I have my blower mounted up high but i use some blower hose so the pickup is below the sump.
The whole point of the blower is to suck the petrol vapours out of the bilge so you need to have your pickup down low.
Personally I wouldn't be mounting the blower in the bottom of the bilge like that, they are not designed to get wet or be immersed in water.
Better off mounting it higher like up on the stringer or on the engine somewhere. Only the duct inlet should be at the lowest point.
Cheers ski351, I had intended to have my blower unit above the floor and just run the duct below, but will look to have the end just in front of my motor as all air gets drawn from around the rear seat then under the floor.
Pump or blower?
Pump outlet, typically drivers side towards the stern mounted in the side of the hull.
Blower outlet, as close to the transom as possible so it vents overboard without the possibility of fumes re-entering the hull.
Appologies... Bilge blower.
My engine cover is a large flat section that runs to halfway up the boat. Hoping to install the vent on the side of the cover
