Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsDon't worry about the hours number, just do the standard engine and running checks on inspection. It's really important to get a compression test done on the engine. This will tell you what condition it's in. Generally, they are good for 2500 hours before needing a refurb, and relatively non expensive when they do.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsAt that price forget the hours if it is in half decent shape snap it up before somebody else does. At 20K you have cash left to do engine refresh if required. That boat is worth conservatively 25-30K depending on condition.
It is hard to purchase any ski boat with FNR gearbox for less than 20K. Let alone a top of the line US built Ski Nautique
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsPossible problem here, still planning on checking it on on Saturday at this stage but I need to tow whatever I get with a family sedan (1500Kg braked towing capacity) which would be fine if I got a Spectre or similar, but may be an issue moving into something like this. I asked the guy what the weight of it was and he had no idea. Does anyone know what these things weigh and if it would be safe enough to tow??? otherwise its back to the drawing board...
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats1500kg is really going to limit what you can buy.
That nautique will be around 1100kg dry. Last time I checked tandem easy tows weighed 430kg. By the time you add fuel, gear and people in your vehicle your going to be over. I just had a single axle trailer weighed and it was 309kg's. Maybe look for something on a single axle too. My 81 Naut will scrape under your 1500kg limit but won't be for sale for another 2 months. Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsHere's my boat I bought in August from Adelaide.
Have given it a quick respray ready for Summer as the old paint was fading in places on the top deck. Boat has kept the same name though. 1960's Merlin Sabre. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsHere's a different take on a spectre, It's a bow rider been around for a while now.

Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boatsgday jeff , welcome to the forum. Very tidy old meos you have there. I had a hornet as well for about 5 years and had nothing but fun with it. Had a 302 windsor in it which made it very economical and had a high pole and bimini on it, as far as i know its still getting around sa waters today.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsGday Southern
Thanks for the welcome ![]() What was the name of your ol' hornet? I'll keep an eye out for her. Cheers Jeff
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats
Its a whole lot of fun to drive too JB She has a 2ltr Datsun engine with twin webers. Built in 1972, she won australian championships & set speed records for its class. If anyone is down Goolwa SA, visit the Goolwa Aquatic Club, its on display to the public. See pics in my album on here. Cheers Jeff
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats
Is this the specter that used to be purple? Was converted to a bow rider? You don't see many old boats wrapped...looks good!
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsHey Jeff, when i got the hornet it was called zodiac, didnt realy like the name but too scared to change it being bad luck n all. When i sold it it got renamed extasy ( not sure on how they spelt it) then apparently got reversed over by a houseboat, the good news out of that was the insurance company gave it a full birthday. Havent heard any more about it since and havent seen it in around 6 years.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats
Yeah that's one. Yeah it's converted to bow rider.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsG'day
Wrapping works out a lot cheaper than spray painting. I got quoted 2500 for a waterline up and top deck wrap on a 19 foot boat. Not my taste but that spectre certainly looks like its not the age it is with the wrap and being a bow rider. Cheers
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsI got quoted 1700 to wrap a Spectre a couple of years ago. Seemed an alright price at the time I thought.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsWow first post here .. talk about some inspiration .. hopefully do some more work in mine soon
