Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsJzone, personally I reckon that boat is just too original to spoil with a tower, it is beeyootiful just like it is !!
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats@dudester, Your right, i really don't want to ruin the looks of the boat, but wake boarding from the the pole on the back pulls me down when i'm jumping

Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats
I agree don't ruin it with a tower!! id just go for a high pole
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsGo a high pole that's relative to the height of your wake and wake jumps. If you fit a modern tower it'll be too high for that hull and pull the boat around heaps.
If you still want to fit a tower I reckon the liquid Indy tower (or equivalent) suits these hulls the best.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats@Nevergrew I don't have much room in the boat, will it take up much room, putting in a high pole. Also is there any particular brand that's better than others or is fluid core about it?
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsNo they don't take up much room, but you need to allow enough space in the sub floor (just forward of your engine) for the high pole base. This just screw bolts to your bearers.
The beauty of a high pole (over a tower) is you install the high pole for wakeboarding and then remove it, leaving your boat looking stock.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsWe had a detachable high pole on our Bayliner, it was great.. The boys were doing inverts from it..
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsGo the high pole for sure. A tower will kill the look of that beautiful beast.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsIMO a tower is more practical than a high pole every day of the week.
I'd put a tower on it in a heartbeat - these old girls have so little room I reckon anything you can do to open some up is a good thing.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School Boats
I agree, just important to chose the right tower that suits the boat lines.
Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsHey guys, new to the forum and thought id post up a pic of my old Phantom!

Re: Boat Pics of Clinkers or Old School BoatsWell; what a great lot of "Early Aquatic History" and a great read (haven't read through all the posts yet 'cause the images were just too good to stop lookin' at) - I will get back there though.
Introduction - I'm a really old codger - comin' up for my 70th in February 2018 and I'm sort of NEW to this boating scene although I have some family history which I will post later. My Dad was into Speed Boat Racing in the late '50's through '70's and had some good stuff. I read the post on this site - {marinising an engine Post by bubblisious » Tue Mar 14, 2006} which led me to joining your pages. My reason for joining this forum was because I am looking for information (Good information) with regards to correctly setting up my 16 foot fibreglass "Chickadee" Hulled clinker. It has a 308 Holden fully marinised and runs has a Rolco Thermo Control set-up with the 6 holed housing and thermostat. I'm a retired Mechanic and have had much experience with building my Favorite Hobby choice - HOT RODS (The pre 1949 American origin ones) but as mentioned I have very limited knowledge of boat workings. Can somebody give me a diagram or access to such for the FULL cooling system I should be installing. I wish to run an inter cooler with a fresh water/antifreeze mix through the motor and the Raw water naturally for cooling. I will post full details later of the gear I have with the boat I have bought. Here's a "Happy Snap" of my two old girls - the Rod is a '32 Ford Tudor Sedan which I built in 1989 - she's called "Nadine" and the boat is an "Elliscraft" (that name was never registered) and she's called "Chickadee jnr" - more history on this later. Thanks for the help in advance. Ray You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
